In his Spring Hill, Kansas workshop, Joe Arnold was crafting another unique lighting creation that merged practicality with artistry. His latest idea stemmed from an appreciation for old nautical equipment and its strength, which inspired him to create the All Roped Up Lamp, featuring not only ropes but also a block and tackle.

Joe wanted to pay homage to the rugged utility of ropes and pulleys that had been used for centuries to lift heavy loads. He designed the lamp with a sturdy metal base, but the centerpiece of the design was the carefully woven ropes. Thick, durable cords wound up the lamp’s frame, leading to a detailed block and tackle system, which hung elegantly midway through the structure.

The block and tackle wasn’t just for show—it was fully functional, allowing the user to adjust the height of the lamp’s light source, raising or lowering the bulb with a simple pull on the rope. The pulley system added a layer of industrial charm while showcasing the mechanics of leverage and strength.

At the top, the ropes tied off in a neat knot just beneath the lightbulb, which was encased in a rustic glass shade, casting a soft glow over the intricate ropework and the block and tackle below. Joe’s craftsmanship was evident in every detail, from the polished wood of the pulleys to the brass fittings that held the ropes securely in place.

When the All Roped Up Lamp was complete, Joe added his signature brass plate at the base, reading, “All Roped Up – Handcrafted in Spring Hill, Kansas by Joe Arnold, Veteran Lighting.” The lamp quickly became a standout piece, loved for its blend of industrial design and practical function. The block and tackle gave it a unique edge, turning an everyday object into an interactive piece of art.

For those who brought it home, the All Roped Up Lamp wasn’t just a source of light—it was a symbol of the power of simple tools, the ingenuity of craftsmanship, and the beauty found in life’s intricate connections.
