His latest idea stemmed from an appreciation for old nautical equipment and its strength, which inspired him to create the All Roped Up Lamp, featuring not only ropes but also a block and tackle.
Joe wanted to pay homage to the rugged utility of ropes and pulleys that had been used for centuries to lift heavy loads. He designed the lamp with a sturdy metal base, but the centerpiece of the design was the carefully woven ropes. Thick, durable cords wound up the lamp’s frame, leading to a detailed block and tackle system, which hung elegantly midway through the structure.
